Provenance
Choiseul-Praslin family, Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte. Maurice Kann [1839-1906], Paris; purchased 1908 with the entire Kann collection by (Duveen Brothers, Inc., London, New York, and Paris). (Wildenstein and Co., New York); sold June 1949 to the Samuel H. Kress Foundation, New York;[1] gift 1952 to NGA. [1] The Kann and Choiseul-Praslin names are given on the Wildenstein invoice, dated 23 June 1949 (copy in NGA curatorial files). The invoice, for a total of 16 items, lists the sculpture as one of a pair by "Claude Michel (Clodion)."
