Gallery information

Rights, sources
& responsibility.

The Open Room is an independently curated, non-transactional gallery. It connects visitors to original collection records and keeps reuse status visible.

01

Open-access collection

Works displayed in the curated rooms were selected only after their originating museum record identified the digital image as public domain or CC0. The Met wing includes only GitHub rows marked public domain that also appear in the official API's image-available results; each image request is checked again for a current public-domain flag and an approved Met image URL. The NGA wing similarly includes only records carrying the published-image open-access flag and a valid image URL. Metadata-only and restricted records are excluded from both wings. Rights designations apply to specific records—not automatically to every object held by an institution—and visitors should recheck the original source before substantial reuse.

02

Google Arts & Culture

Google Arts & Culture is listed only as an external discovery resource. The Open Room does not copy, host, or claim an open license for media found there. Individual works may belong to Google, a museum, an artist, or another rights holder. A work may be embedded here only when its publisher has enabled Google’s official embed option for the relevant domain and the item’s own rights information permits that use.

03

Independent presentation

This site is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by OpenAI, Google, Google Arts & Culture, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Smithsonian Institution, the National Gallery of Art, Getty, the New York Public Library, the Library of Congress, Europeana, the Internet Archive, NASA, Wikimedia, Openverse, or any artist unless a page expressly states otherwise. Institutional names identify sources only.

04

Privacy and external links

The gallery does not provide user accounts or process payments. Its feedback form stores submitted messages, optional contact details, reference attachments, and limited abuse-prevention data privately for review; uploads are not published as artwork. Email, telephone, map, museum, and gallery links open third-party services governed by their own terms and privacy practices.

05

Platform use

The gallery is hosted with ChatGPT Sites. Its content must remain consistent with OpenAI’s applicable terms and usage policies. The site does not claim to be an OpenAI product and does not use OpenAI branding to imply endorsement.
