A pale-skinned young girl leaning over a low fence and holding a broom gazes in our direction in this vertical painting. Her red hair is pulled back from her round face, and she has large hazel eyes under thin brows, a petite nose, and her coral-red mouth is slightly open. She is shown from the chest up, behind a wooden partition that spans the width of the painting. She wears a loose, ivory-white shirt under a garment with pumpkin-orange straps on the shoulders and chest. She leans forward with her elbows hooked over the partition as she holds a long-handled broom to her chest. A wooden pail with a bronze handle is overturned to the right of the broom. A blocky brown object to our left is difficult to make out. A dark brown semicircular object close to us in the center of the composition resembles the mouth of a well. Soft light from the upper left illuminates the girl and the left side of the caramel-brown wall behind her and throws the right side into shadow. A signature near the lower left looks like it had been painted on the inner edge of the well. It reads, “Rembrandt f. 1651.”

Shown from the shoulders up, a young woman with pale skin, dark hair, and wearing a muted turquoise bodice over a white shirt, peers at us against an olive-green background in this vertical portrait painting. Her shoulders are angled slightly to our left, and she tips her head away from us, over her right shoulder, to our left. With her chin jutting a bit toward us, she looks at us from the corners of her heavy-lidded, dark green eyes under arched brows. She has a straight nose, and her smooth cheeks are flushed. The corners of her closed, peach-colored lips are barely pulled back in a faint smile. Her chestnut-brown hair is pulled back, and short curls frame her face in front of her ears. She wears a white, ruffled flower with a white bud and deep green leaves in her hair over her left temple, to our right. A dark rope or twisted fabric encircles her neck, and she gathers the long ends in her right hand, to our left, at her chest. One long curl wraps around the fabric, to our left. Her chest is smooth, and the backs of her fingers are touched with coral pink. Her low-cut, muted blue bodice is worn over a full-sleeved, white shirt pleated below the shoulders. She is lit from our left so casts a shadow against the olive-green wall to our right.

A pale-skinned young girl with blond hair, wearing a blue dress, stands in a garden in this vertical painting. The girl and background are painted with blended strokes, giving the scene and especially the girl a soft look. She faces our right and stands in the middle of the composition. Her shoulder-length cloud of hair is topped with a red bow, and long bangs frame her round face. Under faint brows, her sapphire-blue eyes look to our right. She has a petite nose, and her coral-pink mouth turns up in a slight smile. Her cobalt-blue dress is trimmed with wide, blue-white lace on the neckline, across the bottom hem, and down the front to either side of a row of white buttons. The white edges her petticoats come down to just below her knees, peeking out from under the flaring skirt. She wears white socks over blue ankle boots, which also have a row of white buttons down the side we can see. Her near hand is raised with her index finger hooked in the handle of a green watering can, and she holds two daisies by her side in her other hand. She stands on a path flecked with ivory white, pale purples, greens, and pink that curves up and to her left. A bush with emerald and pine-green leaves dotted with pink blooms fills the lower left corner. Behind her, green grass runs back to meet a profusion of pink, purple, and poppy-red plants and flowers that run along the top edge of the composition. The artist signed and dated the lower right, “Renoir. 76.”
